Austausch „Schulden gegen Natur“, bei dem sich die Interessen von Entwicklungsländern an einer Entschuldung und Industrieländern am Erhalt natürlicher Ressourcen (bes. der tropischen Regenwälder) miteinander verbinden sollen. Beim D.f.N.S. treten Umweltschutzorganisationen aus Industrieländern als Käufer von Schuldtiteln der Länder der Dritten Welt auf, die mit hohen Abschlägen auf Sekundärmärkten gehandelt werden. Der Schuldenerlass (oder der Umtausch der Titel in die heimische Währung des Schuldnerlandes) erfolgt gegen die Zusicherung, bestimmte Umweltschutzprojekte durchzuführen.
